MATCHinform Defines its Guide to Informed Dating

In the upcoming weeks, I plan to continue to discuss the ten steps that are the basis for MATCHinform’s Guide to Informed Dating. So far, MATCHinform has revealed steps #2, #3 and #5. The full list is as follows:

Step #1 Do not grieve over a failed relationship.
Step #2 Do not be friends with members of the opposite sex.
Step #3 Shop for a date in the right market.
Step #4 Have realistic expectations.
Step #5 Market your strengths effectively.
Step #6 Take precautions for your safety.
Step #7 Honestly communicate your dating goals.
Step #8 Do not talk about your ex.
Step #9 Know your deal-breakers.
Step #10 Know when to end a relationship and move on.

My advice is right; Even if you don't want to hear it.

In response to an email:

You cannot paint the whole 'relationship' thing with a few examples, make your own rules of happiness, and expect that everyone should follow these rules because they work for you.

Of course one response will not cover every possible contingency. MATCHinform’s “rules” are more aptly described as guidelines based on the experiences of many who have discovered, after many failures, that success can be attained if one thinks before one acts.

We are recommending that, when dating with the goal of developing a good, long-term relationship, one keeps his/her eyes open for red flags. We also suggest one follow our guidelines as closely as possible, under whatever the particular circumstances are; however we hope that one does not attempt to fool him/herself by painting actions that cause failure as mere "contingencies."

We have recommended that a 40 year old man, who lives with his mother should raise a flag; however, this flag is a warning and not necessarily a "stop sign". Perhaps he lives with mother because she is ill, and in need of assistance, making him a responsible son, and not an immature, momma's boy.

Every relationship is different as are all people; however, when one has experienced a series of failed relationships, and each of these have been eerily similar, one should not waste valuable time and energy defending the actions that might have caused such failures. One should reflect on what has to change and attempt to make the positive changes needed.

MATCHinform Establishes Steps for Dating

Most dating advice is comprised of a series of vague platitudes. Not only is the advice blurred, but it also tends to contradict itself. I want to set forth a series of steps or rules that are stated clearly, concisely and leave little room for interpretation. I cannot guarantee that you will discover and retain a successful relationship if you follow this advice. However, I can promise that the odds will be stacked in your favor.

As with all commentary, there will be proponents and opponents of MATCHinform’s steps to successful dating. It is not my stance that there are not exceptions the rules. However, I believe that most people want that exception to apply to themselves in order to justify their own bad behavior. “It is easier to prevent bad habits than to break them” - Benjamin Franklin.

So far,
step #1 - do not have friends of the opposite sex.
step #2 - be available (to be continued).
